7-Year-Old Gets Boobs for Birthday, Lipo for Christmas

Remember the woman who gave her daughter a boob job gift certificate for her 7th birthday?  Well she must've noticed that no one was talking about it anymore, because for Christmas the youngster received another certificate — this time for liposuction.

When daughter Poppy was 6, Sarah Burge, aka "The Human Barbie," gave her pole-dancing lessons. At 7, she treated Poppy & friends to an "exotic pamper party" which included mani/pedis, hair extensions, makeup, and fake tattoos. That was on top of the voucher for breast implants when she turns 16.

Burge told Closer magazine: "Poppy begged me for a boob job, so I gave her the voucher so she can have it after she's 16, when it's legal. If she develops naturally big boobs, she can have something else done with it."

Makes sense then that the present was a stocking stuffer — those are supposed to be fun yet practical, right? If she doesn't take to sports in high school, at least she has this in her back pocket to keep away that pesky puberty weight gain.

Burge is pretty savvy at using her daughter to make headlines. On her own she's just a pop culture curio — a woman who's had so much plastic surgery she's unrecognizable. But involve the children, and you fire up every person on the Internet who is protective of kids — and that's a lot. (Guilty as charged.)

What worries me about this whole thing is whether or not Poppy is also aware of the negative aspects of cosmetic procedures. The pain, the weeks to months of recovery, the potential side effects, the fact that you may not like the outcome, etc.

Burge is a plastic surgery consultant, so let's hope that when the time comes she's realistic with her daughter about the pros and cons of going under the knife. And that she doesn't let her own passion for plastic push the girl in a direction she might not want to go.

This absolutely breaks my heart. The fact that the Poppy asks for surgery isn't a surprise. Many of us mimic our Mom's behavior, she is the role model. I can only imagine how detrimental it would be to ones self esteem having that role model begin sending the message "You're not good enough" at such a young age, no matter how unintentional the delivery of that message may be.

Would love to hear a conversation between this mother & Gloria Steinem.

Just because she's a plastic surgery consultant doesn't mean her advice is sound.  I just hope she's saving as much for the child's education as she is for her cosmetic enhancements!  Priorities, right?
