Dr. Perricone Shares Easy Fix for Ingrown Hair
Ingrown hair is formed when hair grows sideways into the skin or curls back instead of growing out of the skin. It often announces its presence with an unsightly and painful bump and appears in areas where hair removal is attempted, such as face, legs, and pubic region. Getting rid of ingrown hair is not exactly easy, and it can take weeks for an ingrown hair to fall off despite treatments or exfoliation.
If you're having trouble with ingrown hair, Dr. Perricone shares a little tip in the August '08 issue of Cosmopolitan: rub salicylic acid on the areas. Dr. Perricone doesn't have a salicylic acid product specifically for ingrown hair, but two to try are Tend Skin and MD Formulations Vit-A-Plus Body Clearing Complex Spray.
Although Tend Skin (Liquid) is not a salicylic acid product, it claims to be the solution for all hair removal problems, not only ingrown hairs, but also razor bumps and razor burn. MD Formulations Vit-A-Plus Body Clearing Complex Spray does contain salicylic acid - along with lactic acid, both of which help to promote exfoliation.
