Organic and Natural skin care

I am thrilled to announce, I am pregnant with my first child!

Now that I am slathering on products for two, I am using an even keener eye when it comes to selecting beauty products. I’ll be writing about such products, as I believe they will benefit not only pregnant readers, but anyone who is seeking more purity in their skin care regimens.

Faithful readers of my blog know that I am a big proponent of natural and organic skin care, and products that boast a lot of integrity when it comes to their ingredients. I may have also mentioned that up to 60% of what we put on our skin finds its way into our bloodstream. People often forget that our skin is our body’s largest organ.

Noah’s Naturals ‘Honest to Goodness’ is a line I have come across that has multiple benefits going for it. They are 100% natural, and they contain no parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, no propylene glycol, no petrolatum and no artificial colors.

Here’s a quick rundown of why you don’t want the any of the above in your products, or on your skin:

Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives.
Sodium laryl sulfate is a known chemical irritant and contaminant used to make products foamy. (I’ll pass on the “foam,” thanks!)
Propolyene glycol is a compound additive that affects the body’s chemistry by increasing the amount of acid.
Petrolatum is mixture of hydrocarbons to avoid. Dangers include acquiring lipid pneumonia if inhaled into the lungs.
Artificial colors – many contain toxic ingredients.

Another huge bonus is, ‘Honest to Goodness’ is currently exclusively available in Wal-Mart, and on the Noah’s Naturals website. Finally, high quality, natural skincare that everyone can afford. I have been frustrated on so many occasions when I have wanted to buy an organic or natural product and then found that the price point was ridiculously high. Every product in the ‘Honest to Goodness’ line costs under $10.

My favorites are:

Honest to Goodness Facial Scrub: The scent is divine and it exfoliates and softens my skin- not an easy feat!

Honest to Goodness Vitamin Cream Night: My skin has been so unbelievably dry since I got pregnant, and this is the perfect richness I need to moisturize my skin.

Please let me know about your favorite natural and organic products!

Congratulations!!!!!!!  It is so funny that you decided to post on natural products and those without particularly suspect chemicals and additives.

You'll appreciate my latest post on GirlPaint which discusses the dangers of traditional hair dyes...and offers some natural alternatives (check out the link to the Babyfit article).  Best wishes for a fabulous pregancy...you have to keep us all 'posted' (hahahahaha) on the progress!

P.S. Have you picked names yet?  If not, I have lots of good ones...perhaps you can post a blog poll to narrow it down.

Thanks, GirlPaint! I'll check out your blog entry. As for names, I'd love to hear your name suggestions once we find out the baby's gender... to narrow things down a bit. We have a few in mind, but you never know what else we might fancy! Thanks a lot for commenting!

Congratulations! We are hoping to start a family soon, as well, and I'll definitely be turning to you to determine which products work for you - and later, for baby. Wishing you all the best!

Hi there! I appreciate the info on your page. I'm always looking for truly natural skin products as well, I'm 50 years old, mother of 6 and live in a dry climate, so my skin is in dire need of Honest to Goodness moisture! Non of the WalMarts in my area carry the Honest to Goodness products. Think I'll talk to a manager about it. Until then, I'll check out the Noah's Naturals web site. Thanks

When we moved to Greece I bought-well...ordered 6 bottles of the mosturizer, only to find they had changed the formula!! So dissapointed as it was the only thing that cleared my cystic acne on my chin! Any idea where I can find the original all-day moisturizer?
