Makeup tries to act like skincare, but does it work?
It used to be that when you bought makeup, you got makeup. Likewise, if it were skincare you wanted, that's what you got. Not so anymore. Just like having curly hair and wanting straight, cosmetic companies have been migrating more and more into wannabe land--like the Olay skin creams that claim to give you younger-looking skin sans needles 'n knives. And while it's not a new trend, makeup's now increasingly stepping up to the anti-aging plate by infusing formulas with ingredients like antioxidants and hyaluronic acid.
The LA Times reported (7/6/08) on some foundations that aim to do double-duty--here, 3 skin-care infused perfectors:
1. Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Pressed Powder contains not only antioxidants, but also SNY-AKE (synthetic snake venom) that's touted as a muscle-inhibitor to help minimize wrinkles (aka, wannabe Botox).
2. True Cosmetics Protective Mineral Foundation contains Idebenone, a synthetic variant of CoQ10, and promises to deliver antioxidant benefits to skin.
3. Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup contains peptides along with hyaluronic acid to moisturize and plump skin while claiming to boost collagen production.
Sounds great, right? But keep in mind, many times the actual level of these key ingredients found in anti-aging makeup formulas is relatively small and it may just pay to have your expectations in line with that as well.
Have you tried makeup infused with anti-aging technology like those shown here? Let us know!
