My Lips
If you have been following me, you know that I have had permanent makeup applied to both my brows and lips. The brows I thought were a complete and immediate success. The lips, another story. I paid $450.00 to have my lips tattooed so I wouldn't have to wear lipstick. However, when you have had years of sun damage to your lips, the color doesn't always take. Fortunately, the person who did my work set my expectations correctly. She looked at me and told me flat out that I had a lot of sun damage on my lips.
In my case, after two hours of enduring discomfort, I had almost no visible result on my lower lip and a result that only I could discern on my upper.
I went back for the second session (included in the price and disclosed as almost always necssary) and endured a second two-hour session.
The facial artist told me that the lips heal in three stages: too dark, too light, and just right. I went through the stage of looking like Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton. Then I went through the stage of looking like I had forgotten to apply lipstick. Thankfully, I am now healed, and I think I am at a stage where my lips look natural, but not too blue or too white. Truthfully, I can go to meetings without lipstck and not feel naked.
Was it worth $450? No. Would I do it again? No. But is it an unsatisfactory result for a woman who has lived in the desert (read constant sun exposure) for forty years? No.
I realize this doesn't tell you what to do. But I think on the lips, permanent makeup is always a subtle result. Be glad if your artist tells you that in advance.
