Peptides 101
Ok. I got the memo: peptides are my skin's little helpers in the fight against time. The only problem is, between this peptide and that peptide I don't know which way the peptide tide is going. Then I stumbled on this gem of an explanation, complements of Azure Cosmeceuticals at their HydroPeptide site. First thing to know if you're not peptide savvy, HydroPeptide is a brand, not an ingredient.
So Azure Cosmeceuticals explains the 11 peptides in their HydroPeptide collection--and luckily, these peptides are not exclusive to HydroPeptide, so Azure is doing all skin care devotees a favor by sharing here. Here's the 11 peptides in HydroPeptide and what they do:
Acetyl Glutamyl Heptapeptide-3 = muscle-relaxing neuropeptide
Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 = muscle-relaxing neuropeptide (aka trade name Argireline, aka "Botox alternative")
Dipeptide-2 = stimulating and detoxifying aminopeptide
Dipeptide Diacetate = muscle-relaxing neuropeptide characterized after snake venom
Hibiscus Extract = muscle-relaxing neuropeptide taken from okra
Palmitoyl Oligopeptide = collagen stimulating aminopeptide
Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 = smoothing and regenerating aminopeptide
Palmitoyl Tripeptide-3 = collagen-boosting aminopeptide that mimics growth factors
Tripeptide-1 = restructuring and hydrating aminopeptide
Soy Peptide = oxygenating aminopeptide
Wheat Peptide = energizing aminopeptide
These certainly aren't all the peptides out there--Copper Peptide isn't listed here and that's a fave of skin care R&D folks for stimulating collagen production. But at least this list is a start--and I'm glad Azure Cosmeceuticals shared it.
HydroPeptide's Intensive Concentrate Anti-Aging Corrective Creme incorporates 6 of the above peptides in its formula along with over 10 antioxidants, growth factor activators, retinol, vitamin c, hyaluronic acid & more. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like quite the potent "little helper"...
