Pigmentation removal by Fraxel
Last night my friend Denise stopped by with her lovely child (pictured here enjoying time with my pup). Ever since pregnancy Denise has tried in vain to get rid of her facial melasma*. But now the pigmentation from her skin gone. Poof. She looks positively radiant!
Her no-longer-a-secret solution? Fraxel laser treatment.
After 5 sessions with the Fraxel laser she got the results she had long sought. She said the pain was pretty intense on her last few sessions, but recovery was fast. She had some facial swelling, redness and scaley skin for a few days after each one. As a bonus side-effect she said her overall skin tone and texure is great.
Love hearing and seeing success stories like these.
* Melasma is defined by the US NIH as a dark skin discoloration...often associated with the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. It is especially common in pregnant women, women who are taking oral contraceptives ("the pill"), and women taking hormone replacement therapy during menopause."

I was very excited to try Fraxel as I had a few melasma spots that really bothered me. Upon consultation with a skin doctor I purchased 6 treatments. My first treatment went well..and the obvious pigmentation had lightened. I followed their instructions to the T and avoided the sun like the "plague". After my 2nd session I experienced what I was told was post hyper pigmentation. My face is worse now than it was to begin with. I then went to another dermatologist and was told to stop because my skin was a "type 4" and that Fraxel is only good on type 1-3 skin. Fraxel is truly not for everyone. Needless to say I got all my money back and now have to spend more on other creams that will take a bit longer to lighten my pigmentation.

I had my second fraxel treatment about 3 weeks ago now. My face, especially my neck was red and swollen. This did not disappear like the first treatment, and I was left with brown splodges on my cheeks and neck. The doctor disputed it was Fraxel arguing that Fraxel removes brown patches and not gives them to you! I had to insist it was fraxel, he then prescribed skin bleaching cream !! I don't think I am going back for the last treatment. How do you know what your skin type is? What is a 4? (I am fair, blue eyes).

Forgot to mention and most importantly the patches have faded a great deal without the cream I might add. Sheron
