Elke von Freudenberg makeup expertI recently had the opportunity to interview one of the best beauty bloggers on the web about anti-aging beauty. Elke Von Freudenberg is a prolific beauty writer as well as makeup expert who authors Beauty Newsletter blog website" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.beautynews.blogspot.com/">The Beauty Newsletter, among other publications.

ME: What are some of the key changes a woman should make with her makeup as she enters her late 30s, then 40s, and 50s?

ELKE: I think the biggest change a woman should do is lighten up on the makeup. We tend to feel that if we put more on, it will hide the skin discolorations, the wrinkles, etc. But it doesn’t. It adds to it and calls attention to it. You want people to notice your entire face, not one part. That way the focus of under eye wrinkles and such tend to not be so noticeable.

Another thing that works wonders is to update your look. Update your colors and techniques and apply makeup as if you were 16 years old now. Not the 60’s look, but a modern look. Focus on warm tones in makeup, blush, lip gloss, mascara. It takes years off your look."

ME: Recently Revlon Vital Radiance was pulled from the market. Why do you think they failed? Was it the product or the marketing, or something else?

ELKE: To be honest, I really don’t know why it didn’t work and when they changed the display and packaging, I actually was starting to look at it. I don’t think the stores gave the newer look enough time to catch on. But also too, I felt the price points were too high for a drugstore line, and most older women do not buy their cosmetics in the drugstore.

They spend their money on high quality cosmetics because they can. If it was in a department store, it might have gotten more interest.

ME: Do you have any beauty tips for a busy mom who wants to look her best, but doesn't have time in the morning for an elaborate beauty routine. bare escentuals mineral makeup

ELKE: First of all, the mineral makeup foundations are a fantastic time saver. Bare Escentuals is one of the better lines out there. Makes your skin look flawless and radiant in one easy step. Then pick a warm peachy pink blush for the apples of the cheeks, apply lip gloss, mascara and you’re done. It’s enough to make you feel pretty and fast.

ME: In the past you wrote about Freeman Renewance. Have you found any other home chemical peels that are such a bargain?

ELKE: Not really! And I’m still looking! I’m still surprised that it worked as great as it did. I have been noticing in the drugstore a cheaper version of the DermaNew microdermabrasion that I’m tempted to try.

ME: I blog about anti-aging skin creams and beauty treatments. Are there any products you recommend for minimizing lines and firming facial skin?

Vitamin C serums work fantastic because its one of the few things where you actually see results. I also like moisturizers or serums with Olive oil in it. I’m a big believer in it. I actually use virgin olive oil to remove my eye makeup every night and yet at 40 something years, I have very few wrinkles.

Thank you Elke!
