Celebrity dermatologist warns UVA is the silent killer

Ever wonder how Katherine Heigl and Ellen Pompeo have flawless, glowing skin even though they’re sleep deprived, stressed out, and living on coffee for their roles on “Grey’s Anatomy?”

Los Angeles Dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu is a favorite of many Hollywood celebs.  In addition to delivering up celebrity cosmetic treatments, Dr. Wu has created her own skin care line Dr. Jessica Wu Cosmeceuticals.

When I asked Dr. Wu, “What is the best way for someone to reverse the signs of aging from sun damage?” She replied,

"There are different types of sun damage… rough texture, wrinkles, and brown spots. You can start immediately by using the right sunscreen. It’s like when you stop smoking; your lungs start to repair themselves right away. Similarly, sunscreen will repair your skin the minute you start using it- brown spots will fade and texture will smooth out. My number one tip is to use sunscreen daily.

I call UVA rays the silent killers

Dr. Wu also makes it clear that not all sunscreens are the same.  Her advice is to make sure it contains UVA protection. "I say the 'a' in UVA stands for aging…skin cancer is linked to UVA rays. Most sunscreens on the market protect against UVB, but they are letting in UVA. I call UVA rays the silent killers.

They are damaging skin and leading to wrinkles and skin cancer. Look for zinc oxide, which is in my products. Also look for Parsol and Mexoryl SX, which was most recently approved by the FDA a couple of months ago. It is found in Anthelios SX, a new sunscreen out on the market."

Katherine Heigl has lots of pimples. Her skin looks rashy and blotchy w/out makeup. So how is this doctor effective?

Hello Dr. Wu I need help in resolving an ongoing issue of very dark areas around my eyes. Since moving to the south, I have always suffered with allergies which has contributed to this problem. Please tell me where I can get help as soon as possible! Also. I am an African-American female, age 46.
