Product review: Skin Effects by Dr. Jeffrey Dover

Skin Effects by Dr. Jeffrey Dover is an anti-aging skincare line (sold exclusively at CVS stores) that uses non-invasive approaches to fight off those fine lines and wrinkles. The Skin Effects line is hard to miss on store shelves in its pale blue packaging--and it looks the business. So I've wanted to give it a try.

I selected Skin Effects Penetrating Eye Treatment Mask With i/Complex 3 as it sounded like a min-spa for my over-tired & puffy eyes: put on the eye mask, relax for 5-10 minutes, and reveal a rejuvenated look.

I have to say my first impression was, "this is neat!"--not because of how Skin Effects Penetrating Eye Treatment Mask with i/Complex 3 works (we'll get to that) but because of the packaging. At first it's like opening a large disposable contact lens holder--you just have to be careful not to spill the contents as you peel back the paper covering. Then, you are automatically transported back to your petri-dish-in-chem-class days as you place the white "tablet" into the blue solution. Suddenly, the white tablet "grows" right before your eyes as it absorbs the solution.

As the Cat in the Hat would say...but that is not all--oh no, that is not all! Next, that newly expanded white tablet unravels to become an eye mask that you place over your eyes for your 5-10 minutes of peace, which I did. Once my time was up, I did my reveal.

My eye area definitely looked more relaxed, rested and smoothed out. Of course, lying down with feet propped didn't hurt. I'm also thinking that it might be a nice add to refrigerate Skin Effects Penetrating Eye Treatment Mask before applying. I just wish the effects lasted longer, as within an hour or two after wearing the mask my eye area started its retreat back to its fatigued-looking state.

Was it worth it? For a quick, easy and relaxing mini-break that gives eyes a little pick-me-up, Skin Effects Penetrating Eye Treatment Mask with i/Complex 3 was great. It definitely gave me a rejuvenated look, if only temporarily--and at a fraction of what I'd pay for a spa treatment.

Skin effects by Dr. Jeffrey Dover had a product labeled "eye effects" which really worked. You could actually feel tightening around the eye area for an uplifting look. The ingredient which did the job is "horsetail extract" which is found in a very, very expensive eye gel. Why was this discontinued. It worked!

This is a plea to all skincare product makers. STOP putting fragrance in your products. I would rather have a product which is comfortable to wear then some silly fragrance. Fragrance is especially irritating in products containing retinol, hylauronic acid or alpha hydroxy ingrdients. These products already make your skin more sensitive, why would they add fragrance. I love using products with these ingredients because they give great results. Does anybody know of any products that contain these active ingredients with no fragrance. Thanks.

I recently purchased one of your products and inside was a coupon for $5.00 off. This was exciting until I noticed the expiration date was 12/31/08. I just purchased this in Sept.2009. Can it still be used at CVS?

Not I'm not a snake but my eyes burn like fire when applying the eye cream with vitamin C (hmm, no wonder!). I ended up going to the ophtalmologist and paid for the consultation, and two medication to relieve the problem. The presentation of the product is great. Beautiful and modern and fresh looking bottle and the cream itself feel great to put on... But that burning sensation comes right along and it's difficult to keep my eyes open. Had to discontinue use.

Wow, i had the exact same reaction to that product. I called the hotline and the girl who answered told me not to put the cream on my eyelid. Now i put it under my eyes, under my browbone and on the skin between mye eyes and hairline. I am able to use this product now with almost no discomfort. What I don't like about these, and many other, products is the addition of fragrance. Especially, when using products with retinol or hylauronic acid which already make the skin sensitive. I complained about it to the hotline. Now I just use another eye cream on my eyelid.

I have used the Wrinkle Effects Rejuvenating Hand Treatment-the absolute worst thing I have ever used on my hands. The immediate effect is that the back of my hands look and feel smooth. Within a short time, however, my skin start to have little cracks. At first I couldn't believe it, but I've tried the product about a dozen times, and every time I have gotten the cracks. Unfortunately, I bought 2 of these (one for home and one for work) and never kept the receitpt, so I can't return them and get my money back. This has never happened with any other hand cream I have ever used.
