Brazilian Butt Lift Buzz: How to Get It the Safe Way

A British woman died on Saturday in a hotel in Philadelphia, reportedly after having industrial grade silicone injected in her buttocks by a woman who was not a doctor in an attempt to augment her butt. It’s a sad and important reminder that cosmetic surgeries should only be done in a certified operating room by a certified plastic surgeon. A few of the things that we know were done incorrectly that may have lead to this woman’s death:
- Industrial grade silicone (silicone caulk), which can be bought at any hardware store, is definitely not the same type of silicone doctors use in their offices, as Dr. Arthur Perry, author of Straight Talk About Cosmetic Surgery said on Good Morning America earlier today. “I prefer to buy my medical supplies at medical supply houses.”
- Even if it was medical grade silicone, Brazilian butt lifts are typically done with a fat transfer.
- The surgery was performed by a lay person, not a doctor, and in a hotel room, not a certified operating room.
