Accent RF Body Contouring

Beauty Cred on 7 Feb 2008 at 6:06pm

I just got an email from the medspa I usually go to about their new Accent RF Bodycontouring equipment. So I went out on the web looking for some advice. I found a great site that we all ought to be looking at: It's a site specifically for the doctors who treat patients at Medspas.

I went directly to the physician to physician Q&A section, and found out that the physicians were sharply divided.

"I think Accent is way over-priced. I have used it for the face and I think it does better for the lower face than the upper face. It is a hit-and-miss for body contouring. But if it works, it would work in 2-3 sessions. Again, pick your patients carefully. Like everything else in esthetic medicine - always underpromise and overdeliver."

"FYI: I came across a copy of minute notes to a staff meeting where the franchise( large) was using the Accent Laser in Clinical Trials and reported a less than desirable outcome for the anticipated hype it had generated in the medical community. They were suggesting much more testing needed to be accomplished prior to the FDA approval, which as we know has already happened."

"I worked at an office that had the Accent since Early 2006 as part of the CHDR. The results, like all other radiofrequency devices, are inconsistant and not very dramatic. On a good note, it does not hurt. We are investigating the new non-surg lipo lasers. Does anyone else out there ever feel like a snake oil salesman at the end of the day? BTW, the A.S. is the abbreviation for the degree that I hold, "ain't sh%t"."

So what do we know about this treatment? Our readers have thought it worthwhile. Unbelievable, I haven't had it :-) Yet.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had Accent treatments before I plunk down a couple of thousand dollars. Still...if it's good for the lower face, that's my problem area.

 The marketing site says:

"Dual-layer RF Thermotherapy causes the deep structures of your skin to tighten right away; results are immediately visible. With time, new collagen develops, further tightening your skin and yielding even more beautiful, natural looking and firmer skin. While just one or two treatments can produce good results, your doctor may recommend follow-up procedures to best maintain and improve your body's youthful appearance."

I wouldn't even BEGIN to try it on my body. Too much of a challenge for any piece of equipment.

I had accent done at Dr. {edited}'s office in Reston, Va. It was amazing. I took a total of 4 inches off my stomach in 3 treatments. I think it is well worth it and I did a lot of research and right now it seems to be our best bet to combat unwanted fat and cellulite Editor note: you must join RealSelf so you can be contacted privately with doctor recommendations and feedback. Hi, I have had 2 treatments so far, and I am losing hope that this will work for me. I was wondering if you had fat and loose skin on your tummy. I have both, and I see no difference after the 2 treatments. Were your treatments 1/2 hr. each? Also, do you mind saying how old you are? I am 51, and not overweight, just in the belly. Thanks for your time,
