Is the Tria $995 hair removal device worth it?

SpectraGenics, Inc. announced FDA clearance of their TRIA hair removal device recently with the following press release:

"SpectraGenics, a leader in light-based therapeutic beauty devices, today announced over-the-counter (OTC) clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for their patented hand-held laser hair removal device designed for at-home use. The TRIA is the first hair removal laser to enter the US home-based device market, an industry projected to grow exponentially over the next three years."

The TRIA is the first of its kind for at-home use in the US. A device similar to the TRIA, the i-Epi (also made by SpectraGenics) has been on the market in Japan since 2005.

TRIA is available at select doctors' offices and medical spas, listed in the Store Locator on triabeauty.com. TRIA will cost you $995.

Allure Magazine named the Tria a "Beauty Breakthrough of 2008" in December, because the Tria has been proven to work through research published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Allure also awarded Tria the 2008 Editors' Choice Award, which honors the brightest in the world of beauty each year.

Dr. Eric F. Bernstein, MD, a New York City dermatologist, said that "you cannot stop a field-changing technology. You have to embrace it."

I love my Tria laser hair removal system. It's incredibly easy to use and I can zap some hairs away when I want to. The price has come down some, it's now $595.
