Who Made the List? EWG Safe Sunscreen Report
The Environmental Working Group's (EWG) report on sunscreens reveals those which their investigation deems to be safe--and effective. The report analyzes both ingredients--for potential health hazards based on extensive research of regulatory and toxicity reports--and efficacy, based on three criteria: UVA protection, UVB protection, and stability--or how quickly a sunscreen ingredient breaks down in the sun.
For the full list of sunscreens (some at the bottom of EWG's list will surprise you) visit EWG. But the bottom line is that out of 952 sunscreens EWG tested, EWG recommends 143, suggests caution for 314, and suggests avoiding 495!
Two that EWG recommends are Keys Solar RX SPF 30+ and Marie Veronique Sun Serum SPF15. EWG also recommends three from California Baby if you're looking for complete family suncare.
The EWG's criteria are fairly stringent--so kudo's to those sunscreens that make the top of the list--but how about you? How important is it to you that your sunscreen ranks high with the EWG? Let us know!
