Old Spice gets into premium skincare (DDF)
The same company that markets Old Spice to olfactory-challenged men (P&G) announced the acquisition of one of my favorite skincare lines, Dr. Sobel's DDF (Doctor's Dermatologic Formula). I've found nothing works better on my winter-dry skin as the DDF Cellular Revitalization Age Renewal. I was just about to pick up their redness relief as well.
You wouldn't expect to see Olay Definity (another P&G product) at The Delano in Miami or the Canyon Ranch. This is a key reason why mega-sized Proctor & Gamble decided to acquire the tiny DDF prestige skin care line. DDF has exclusive relationships with premium spas as well as a commanding presence on the shelves of Sephora.
While it's good to see the big personal care companies take interest in premium skincare products, I have mixed feelings about their presence in the doctor-branded market. Sort of like when you discover that the small, tasty winery you discovered is actually owned by a mega-corp that's 100% profit driven.
Sorry, but somehow DDF just became less attractive. Is that fair?
