10 Tips for a great Fake Tan
A sunless tan is really not difficult to achieve if you remember a few basic things:
Exfoliate first. Slough away flaky skin so your sunless tanner can adhere to skin evenly and smoothly.
Wear gloves. You'll help avoid the tan-hands syndrome and aid in smooth application.
Use an "any-angle" spray. It helps get to hard-to-get-at places and goes on evenly.
Go gradual. Achieve your ultimate shade gradually with a formula that "builds" color over several days.
Know when to say when. If you wouldn't have naturally turned the color of a copper penny, don't attempt do so by fake means.
Wash hands. And the floor, sheets, sink--wherever you don't want accidental color showing up, wash!
Color correct. If you notice a streak that shouldn't be there, try a little lemon juice or baking soda to lighten it up.
Keep skin moisturized to avoid the flaky look of paint chipping off a white wall. It's a dead giveaway.
Remember sunscreen. You're tan, but you're not sun-safe.
Flaunt it. Hey, you worked for it.
Today's gradual formulas--look for giveaway clues in names like "daily moisture glow" --really make self-tanning a breeze compared to just a few years ago. So give it a try if you're not one of the faithful already--and let us know what you think!
