Zeltiq Coolsculpting Procedure Receives FDA Approval for Non-Invasive Fat Reduction!
Article by Armando Soto, MD

Today, the FDA approved the Zeltiq Coolsculpting procedure for non-invasive fat reduction, recognizing the procedure's reliable effectiveness and well-documented safety record.
I believe this a very significant and positive development- unlike many other devices introduced over the past few years for improvement in body contour (which have over time over-promised and under-delivered), the science behind the Coolsculpting procedure is solid, sound, and was acquired over a long time by very reputable physicians and scientists.
Furthermore, the manufacturer has (so far) done an excellent job of maintaining credibility and integrity in the marketing and sales processes- making it easier for those of us for whom integrity and long-term reputation are critically important to endorse the technology and the procedure to our patients.
Here is an excerpt from the official press release-
CoolSculpting fills a previously unmet need in the medical aesthetic marketplace with a safe
procedure cleared by the FDA that gently cools unwanted fat cells in the body to induce a natural,
controlled elimination of fat cells. This reduces bulges in the treated area of the body. On average,
each CoolSculpting procedure results in a 20% reduction of fat in the treated area, and patients
can start to see results as soon as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results
occurring over a period of two to four months in most patients.
Unlike most other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery or
downtime. During the procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to
the treatment area to specifically target underlying fat, leaving surface skin tissue
unaffected. Procedures last about one to two hours. Patients can have additional procedures for
more pronounced effects if they desire.
Very exciting stuff!
