"27 years ago, I had my 10 pound baby which left me with an unsightly vertical C-Section Scar and a Kangaroo pouch. I promised myself someday I would get a new tummy. Years later, I inherited some money and had my long desired abdominoplasty. It is now 4 years later; I am 53 now and still as happy as I can be with my results!"

Want to know what to consider before a Tummy Tuck?

1.         You may want to ask yourself, “Am I a good candidate for the tummy tuck procedure?”  Before considering a tummy tuck, it is important that you are already at your goal weight and that your weight is stable.  If you are a smoker, you may want to inform your surgeon as smoking increases the chances or poor healing.  Also, it is important to have realistic expectations of the outcome.  In a consultation, your plastic surgeon can show you what a tummy tuck will do for you.   Although the tummy tuck is not a weight reduction procedure, it is designed to contour the abdomen by removing unwanted excess skin and fat and tighten the abdominal muscles.  *A nice perk is that any stretch marks below the belly button are usually removed with the excess skin.

2.         Do you still want to have children?  If you know you want children, you may want to wait to have your tummy tuck.  This also applies to anyone having a surgery that involves cutting through the abdominal muscles, i.e. an open hysterectomy.  If you have your surgery first, then tummy tuck will make the necessary repairs to bring back that flat abdomen.

3.         To ensure the best results it is important to choose an experienced plastic surgeon. During the consultation, you may want to ask your plastic surgeon how long has he or she performed the tummy tuck and how many.  An experienced plastic surgeon should have several before and after photos to show you.  Lastly, you want to make sure the surgeon you choose is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.

After surgery, here is the most important factor:

IF YOU MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT, YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR RESULTS FOR YEARS TO COME!
