Chinese eye surgery, pick the right Surgeon
Q: I am of Chinese origin and feel very uncomfortable with the way I am aging. My eyes look tired all the time. Is there anything I can do about it? Should I take any special precautions?
A: Treating tired-looking eyes are among my favorite things to treat. Patients can look tired for various reasons. It could be that your eyebrows are droopy or that you have a prominent tear-trough deformity (a depression between your nose and lower eyelid). These aspects of your tired look can be corrected with Botox, Dysport or fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse or Juvederm. Of course, whichever you choose should be administered by a physician who has experience with the substance.
If the situation calls for something more dramatic and you need surgery, make sure that you choose a facial plastic, plastic or oculoplastic surgeon experienced in ethnic surgery. There is a distinct method and extra care that must be used when operating on non-Caucasian patients. There is a difference in the quantity of skin and fat excision that needs to be done during surgery to maintain a natural look. I have many patients of Chinese origin who remain with their ethnicity but look very rested and are happy after surgery.
