Liposonix is a new non-surgical alternative to liposuction. Liposonix technology is based on a high-intensity ultrasound wave that is beamed a little more than an inch under the skin. These waves are intended to break up fatty tissues without pain, scars, anesthesia or a long recovery time.
Ultrasound has been used for years as an assisting tool in liposuction like procedures liposelection and liposculpture, in the surgical removal of fat. Engineering the frequency and energy of an ultrasound beam to disrupt fat cells from outside the skin, without hurting the skin or other tissues, is a new concept and is currently done with Ultrashape.
Based on trials of the device, Liposonix reported that it proved safe for skin tissue and effective at reducing fat in the stomach region.
Clinical results to date demonstrate excellent patient safety and efficacy of the LipoSonix procedure. The blood work demonstrates no evidence of any adverse local or systemic effects from the procedure
Liposonix is working to get Sonosculpt approved for cosmetic use by the FDA and deliver the technology to the market as soon as possible.

Liposonix may not be such a great lipo alternative. Liposonix mexico trials results were mentioned in a recent Fortune Small biz article. Here is comment: "Don't count on the device to make significant inroads into the current obesity epidemic in the U.S., however. Most patients enrolled in the Mexico test have had one to 1.5 pounds of fat removed during each procedure, and Quistgaard says that number isn't likely to change when U.S. trials begin. By comparison, surgical liposuction can remove as much as five pounds of fat. In other words, LipoSonix may help you lose the love handles, but it won't take away that spare tire."

Does anyone know when Liposonix will be available in the US?
