Liposculpture Guide

Liposculpture treats your "problem areas", like saddle bags, while leaving your surrounding tissue (nerves, blood vessels) intact.

Liposculpture is a liposuction technique that speeds your recovery time and reduces the pain associated with traditional liposuction. Liposculpture works best on targeted areas that are resistant to diet and exercise such as the upper or lower back, abdomen, arms and enlarged male breasts.

If liposuction doesn't appeal Liposculpture is a cosmetic surgery procedure that uses ultrasound to break fat into small sections to aid in its removal from your body. Liposculpture is also called ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL liposuction) due to the use of ultrasound energy to break up fat.

Liposculpture procedure

Liposculpture involves the injection of a large volume of a special saline fluid, like the kind used in tumescent liposuction into the area being treated. The solution contains a local anesthetic and adrenaline which helps to numb the site and shrink the blood vessels. Since the tumescent solution that is injected contains an anesthetic, you may remain awake during the liposculpture procedure and can actually monitor the process.

Next, your plastic surgeon creates a small incision and inserts an instrument (called a cannula) through the areas of fat. The cannula emits ultrasound energy that explodes the fat cell wall and emulsifies the fat. The liquefied fat is then suctioned out in the traditional liposuction technique. However, this suction process is less damaging to the surrounding tissue vs. traditional liposuction due to the fact the fat is in a fluid from.

Liposculpture causes minimal swelling and bruising and recovery is faster than with traditional liposuction. Although some people will see an immediate improvement, your skin will continue to shrink as the healing progresses and swelling subsides. Full benefits may take up to two months.

Once the fat is removed, you may opt for a fat injection treatment.

The harvested fat can be treated and carefully re-injected into other areas to augment your breasts or enhance your cheeks and lips, without fear of rejection or allergic reaction. Many patients undergo additional treatments such as endermologie which uses massage to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Liposuction or liposculpture does not typically eliminate cellulite.

Potential Liposculpture side effects

Liposculpture side effects may include-but are not limited to-irregular, asymmetric or "baggy" skin, numbness and pigmentation changes, bruising, and swelling.

Some patients ooze significant fluid from the incision and require precautions such as rubber sheets over a bed mattress.
