There are specific indications for Moh's surgery, including, but not limited to the type and aggresive nature of a primary tumor, the location, and clinical findings including how well the borders are demarcated.

Moh's surgery provides a suitable option for patients with cancer in aesthetically sensitive areas like the nose, cheek, and eyelids.  In secondary cases, where the margins were not clearly excised, Moh's surgery may be performed to optimize the chance of complete cancer clearance in the area.
