I see the recovery is long, it's making me question if I'm gonna hate the way I look all summer (if I get it in June) & be even more self conscious that I won't want to go out and enjoy my summer, Also I'm going to college and playing D1 lacrosse in the fall, so I am nervous of it interfering too much with my training over the summer (doing crossfit). crossfit isn't a contact sport but it has lifting in it. I want to be able to get back at least after 2-3 weeks. If I'm careful will I be able to?
Answer: Lax so funny...we are an all lax family (my wife was all american at Tufts and our teenagers play high level club).... i operate (mostly rhinoplasties) on lots of athletes at all levels and generally do not run into conflicts with their respective sports so long as they can take it easy for 1-2 weeks and avoid a direct blow to the nose for at least 6-8 weeks....i'm not sure where you are getting a 'lengthy recovery' from but most rhinoplasty experts would concur that the recovery is quite short but the final outcome/swelling may take monthsThe desire to consider rhinoplasty must come from within the patient.... however, objectively speaking you have a somewhat long nose, prominent dorsal hump and an over-rotated/dropped/poorly defined tip...your personality appears to come through with your smile and you appear lovely despite somewhat distracting nasal aestheticsTechnically, mostly any healthy prospective patient who desires a change in the appearance and/or function of their nose will ultimately be considered a 'good' candidate for surgery by many surgeons.... Plastic surgery is odd and often unfortunate that way....the holy grail is matching patients who have reasonable expectations with surgeons who make an accurate assessment of their nasal issues and have outstanding skills/judgment...rhinoplasty patients (and essentially all elective cosmetic surgery patients for that matter) are filled with hope, excitement and trust when they undergo elective surgery.... when the right surgeon has helped guide you through a well thought out plan and executed it faithfully, ALMOST ALWAYS patients are happy and satisfiedDisappointing results are always secondary to poor patient selection, poor planning, poor execution or bad luck..the RealSelf site is littered with them....it takes a bit of work and planning to find the right surgeon You are fortunate given that this is a primary rhinoplasty for you...You appear to have all the right anatomical ingredients (a prominent dorsum, non ideal tip aesthetics and generous supporting structures)....the best chance to 'get it right' is the first time...given your delicate skin, your rhinoplasty will need to be very meticulously done with rigorous attention to detail..... be thorough, take your time and choose a surgeon who has:1. many years of rhinoplasty practice experience2. judgment and techniques that have evolved over time3. practice focused on rhinoplasty 4. willingness to do difficult, secondary and reconstructive cases5. interest in teaching others how to evaluate and do rhinoplasty properly6. willingness to share rhinoplasty resume, photos and patient experiences with prospective patientsgood luck

CONTACT NOW Answer: Does one need a nose-job? You do not need a rhinoplasty. That being said, it may be worth getting a nose job. You are pretty and your nose is a little distracting because the nose is large for your face. A smaller nose with better support and definition would highlight your pretty eyes and great smile. A beautiful rhinoplasty would give you a natural result that would bring balance to your face. Be very careful choosing your surgeon. The result and recovery vary greatly depending on surgeon. For my patients, the cast is removed routinely at 6 days and patients are out to dinner with friends at that time. Most patients are back to exercise at 2-3 weeks. Best of luck with everything... with crossfit, with D1 lacrosse, and with your nose.

Answer: Worth it? Sure. But pick your surgeon well. You have a difficult nose to get right. See the "Web reference" link, below: I made a couple of computer morphs, and animations, to show the changes that I recommend for your nose. I elevated the tip of your nose, so the tip doesn't droop down as much, and I took down the bump on the bridge of the nose, and then I moved the entire nose back closer to your face.I tell my patients that they can start with fast walking when the splint comes off at seven days, start jogging a week later, and then do lifting a week after that.Typically, even though the nose is swollen after surgery, almost everybody is happy going out in public right when the dressing comes off at one week. Especially if the point of the operation is to make the nose smaller, when the dressing comes off, the nose, with its swelling, would look smaller than it did before surgery. You should understand that the changes I demonstrated in the morph require advanced techniques, techniques that most plastic surgeons cannot handle. Be sure to read the section in the "Web reference" link on how to stay out of trouble while searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon.

Answer: Rhinoplasty candidate The photographs demonstrate a large dorsal hump which is composed of both bone and cartilage. A closed rhinoplasty procedure can accomplish shaving down the dorsal hump, narrowing the tip, and narrowing the bridge. Also important to release the depressor septi ligament which pulls the tip down when smiling. Anticipate a cast applied across the nose for one week after the surgery with 2 weeks of visible bruising and swelling after the procedure. It's important not to exercise for at least 2 weeks after the surgery, and avoid contact sports for 6 weeks. For more information about rhinoplasty and many examples, please see the link and video below

Answer: Nose job is worth it! Thanks for your question. You should definitely not shy away from nose surgery for these reasons. Most of my patients will look acceptable to go in public within a week and will be really happy within 3 weeks. Even though it takes a year for the final result, you should find a significant improvement over what you have now which will make you happy pretty soon after surgery. You can do your training after 2 weeks in my experience and just avoid direct blows to the nose for 6 weeks after surgery. Hope that helps and good luck!
